Barcelona Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is situated in the district of Ciutat Vella as its shown in barcelona center map. It is the center of the old town of Barcelona and is one of the most remarkable parts of Barcelona. The area stretches from Las Ramblas to Vía Laietana and from Passeig de Colom to the Plaça de Catalunya. The Gothic Quarter narrow and twisting medieval streets are the perfect scenery to explore the city center slowly, enjoying the architecture and the small local stores.
Located on the opposite side of Las Ramblas to the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter), El Raval constitutes a major sway of Barcelona Old Town and was located within the city walls until they were knocked down in 1859 as the city threatened to burst at the seams as its mentioned in barcelona center map. As the area of Barcelona center was urbanised gradually over time it is characterised by winding streets and vernacular architecture, rather than the grid-like urban-planning of L’Eixample, which naturally help lend the district plenty of charisma.
Tourists to Barcelona are always keen to visit what is known as the 'Old Town' ('Ciutat Vella') while it is in barcelona center. What you may not know is that this part of town is made up of areas ('barrios') other than the Gothic Quarter. My favourite barrio in the Old Town is El Born. This is the area closest to the Barcelona port and is slightly less touristy and perhaps more affluent than the Gothic Quarter as its shown in barcelona center map.
