Barcelona has two companies dealing with train services as its shown in barcelona train map: Renfe, which manages most of the train lines starting with an R, and FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya - Generalitat de Catalunya Railways), which manages the lines starting with S and some with R. The letter R comes from the word "rodalies" (suburban) and the letter S from "suburbanas" (suburban/suburban Barcelona train).
Suburban trains of Barcelona are not only a complement to the metro for Barcelona center but also lead to the suburbs and nearby municipalities such as Lleida or Tarragona (see barcelona train map). As with the metro, the timetables of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) are from Monday to Thursday, Sundays and holidays from 05:00 to 00:00. On Fridays the timetable extends until 02:00 in the morning, and on Saturdays and the eve of certain public holidays the train service is continuous.
Barcelona suburban trains of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya have two very useful lines. The first train line serves the north from the Plaça de Catalunya and then splits into two branches, one going to Tibidado (L7), the other near the Pedralbes Monastery (L6). Some of these Barcelona trains continue beyond Barcelona to Sant Cugat, Sabadell and Terrassa. The second line connects Manresa from Plaça d'Espanya. It is convenient to get to Montserrat.
The main railway station is called Barcelona Sants, and it is from here that all high-speed trains depart (as its mentioned in barcelona train map). Many trains to Valencia and beyond also serve Estació de França. There is an excellent network of suburban and regional trains serving the wider Barcelona region; these trains are branded Rodalies de Catalunya. Barcelona train network even extends over the French border, but only a small number of Rodalies de Catalunya trains can be booked here on our website.
