The park guell owes its name to Eusebi Guell, a wealthy entrepreneur with a passion for the works of Gaudí, who was one of its main patrons. Although the original idea was to build a luxury residential complex, over the years this idea was aborted and a fairy-tale park was built instead (as its shown in park guell map). The park guell was inaugurated in 1922 and since then it has become one of the main tourist attractions in the city. In 1984 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Covering an area of more than 17 hectares, Guell Park is filled with wavy shapes, tree-like columns, animal sculptures and geometric forms (as its mentioned in park guell map). Most of the park guell surfaces are decorated with mosaics made of small colored pieces of ceramic. The artist took advantage of the 60-meter drop in the mountain to create a spiritual elevation path, a peak on which he planned to build a chapel that was eventually replaced by the Calvary, a promontory located at the top of the park guell from which there is a breathtaking view of the city.

Park Guell is a magical and singular place that always surprises its visitors (see park guell map). A visit to Barcelona can never be complete without a walk through Parc Guell. The entrance to the monuments area is not free of charge and you should be aware that there are long queues (400 people enter every half hour). We therefore advise you to buy your tickets on the internet to avoid queues and get a small discount.

Barcelona Park Guell is the second most visited monument in the city with 2,780,000 visitors in 2016. A very popular visit, full of emotion, magic and surprises in a place that only Antoni Gaudí knew how to bring them out of the ground. Major attraction, a stroll in this park guell will make you discover some of the most beautiful symbols of the city to mention only the famous mosaic salamander or the large terrace surrounded by wavy benches that offers a dazzling view on the horizon (see park guell map).
